How big are the stars?

big starsShimmering Stars seem tiny points of light, but in reality, they are huge. Astronomers do not know exactly how big can become a star, but in certain circumstances, it seems, they can be truly enormous. The nearest star – is, of course, the sun. It has a weight of about 2 million trillion trillion kilograms (two and thirty zeros after it). If the Earth were weighed as a paper clip, the Sun would weigh like a motorcycle Ural.

Although the sun is not so easy, and in fact the weight of a little above average. About 1% of the stars weigh eight times larger than the Sun, and the sheer handful of stars in the galaxy weighs as much as one or two hundred suns. Read the rest of this entry »

Announced amazing shot nebula “Helmet Thor” and the stars of Wolf – Rayet

Italian astro photographer showed us amazingly successful new image of the nebula “Helmet Thor” stars, related to a class of Wolf – Rayet stars. Emission nebula “Helmet Thor” and is known under two other symbols: NGC 2359 and LBN 1041. It was opened by the famous English astronomer William Herschel, German-born (William Herschel) in winter, January 31, 1785.

Nebula “Thor Helmet” is located at a distance of 15,000 light-years from Earth in the southern constellation of the “Big Dog”. Across this emission nebula is about 30 light-years. The title of this nebula is consistent with its form: the nebula looks like a mythical hero helmet. Read the rest of this entry »
