Environmental change is the rapid evolution

evolutionStudies show that changes in habitat types can cause “evolutionary leap“, as they adapt to survive in the new environment.  By studying soil samples in the laboratory, the researchers found that the period of maturation of all invertebrates almost doubled in about 20 generations.

It has been suggested that such evolutionary changes occur only over a longer period of time.  The discovery was published in the journal Ecology Letters.
