Antarctic sea ices increased by melt water starting the glaciers

Antarctic ices The area of sea ice around Antarctica increased by the freezing of a large amount of melt water that accumulated after the summer melting of continental glaciers. Researchers found that Antarctica for the period from 1985 to the present time – the only place on the planet where the sea ice is increasing, despite the the process of global warming. Himalayan glaciers have mystified scientists

glaciersScientists have available new data on the melting of the glaciers in the Himalayas, which did not correspond with either one previously known estimate. The paper was published in the journal Nature and its summary can be found in Nature News.

New data obtained by satellite ICESat, originally designed to study the thickness of the polar snow. Apparatus with laser measures the distance to the Earth’s surface in the Arctic and Antarctica. It was launched in 2003 and served until 2009, until it broke down all three of his laser.

The glaciers of Antarctica found the valley of the size of the Grand Canyon

Grand CanyonBritish scientists have exposed a giant rift valley by glaciers in western Antarctica. Their findings were available in the scientific journal Nature. Experts believe that the fault is 1.6 kilometers deep and the size of the U.S. Grand Canyon may be related to high rates of ice melting in the region.

The deepening of the crust is located under the glacier Farrago, which stretches for 28 kilometers to the Gulf Eltanina in the Bellingshausen Sea in the western Antarctic. The discovery was made by scientists using radar that can penetrate thick ice at a distance of approximately 2.5 thousand kilometers. The region before the study was visited by explorers only once – in 1961.

As it turned out, the forecast relied on by experts from different countries, the withdrawal was not a group of scientists, having thoroughly studied the problem, and the private opinion of one of their colleagues.

The researchers acknowledged that the forecast date for the complete disappearance of glaciers of the Himalayas was nedostoveren. But the very fact of their melting, however, remains firmly established fact, reads a statement issued on January 20 Panel.
