On the Sun formed giant coronal hole

sunThe solar wind erupts from the large size of the canyon in the solar atmosphere. Scientists call these open zones coronal holes. The dark blue area in this ultraviolet image from the Solar Dynamics Observatory today by NASA, is a new coronal hole.

Coronal holes occur in the outer atmosphere of the Sun, where the magnetic fields are scattered and allow to flow into the space of the solar wind. Wind flow is indicated by white arrows in the image above. Such magnetic holes are formed about once a month, sometimes more often. Read the rest of this entry »
