The earth is our home – for how long?

05 Oct

Our WorldIn our surrounding environment, constantly occurring adverse changes that threaten the very existence of life on Earth. Increasing areas of deserts, dry ponds, reduces the area occupied today by forests, etc.

Mankind also contributes to the acceleration of this negative process: reduction of their living space.

Throughout its existence, people invade their surrounding environment, and it mercilessly exploited to improve their welfare. And it does not think about the future consequences that may result from such not deliberate, intensive exploitation of natural resources.

An example of the death of the Aral Sea was once the source of life, of a large area, the former endorheic salt lake in Central Asia, on the border between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

50 years ago the Aral Sea to ensure the welfare of all the Aral Sea region. Its brackish water videos more than 20 species of game fish that spawn in rivers and fattened mainly in the lake.

In good years it caught up to 40 thousand tons of fish.

The number of inhabitants in most localities Priaralye increased. Very important was the contribution of the Aral Sea to the mitigation of climate region. Until the early depletion of the Aral Sea was the fourth largest lake in the world.

Over-extraction of water for irrigation of agricultural land converted lake-sea, before a rich life in a barren desert.

So began a rapid drying of the Aral Sea. However, not so rapid destruction of the sea would still inevitably, since the flow of water in Central Asia and Kazakhstan increased many times.

A similar fate awaits the Blue Balkhash – the largest lake in Kazakhstan and the thirteenth largest lake in the world. Yet these data are correct. But it is likely that a large lake with different types of water disappear altogether.

Recently, however, the situation is complicated by human activity: the dam, which was built on the Ili River, near the city of Kapchagaj catastrophically affected by the lake Balkhash basin.

Delta Or almost halved, and the lake have lost more than a hundred kilometers of water surface.

Water from the river or the same is increasingly taken up in China, from which it flowed. No less of a problem – the water quality in the lake. Metallurgical plant in the town of Balkhash lake discharges effluent, almost without clearing them.

As a result of the beautiful rich fauna of Lake Balkhash can only speak in the past tense: lake recently was densely populated. Cutting down on the banks of the cane drove away many birds from the shores of Lake Balkhash.

Many species of fish and some shellfish, was once common in the lake, did not survive the excessive pollution and is now listed as endangered.

Such ecological disaster befell the lake, which was located in the Intermountain basin in the area of the Mojave Desert and the Great Basin in the western United States in California, to the southeast of the mountain range of Sierra Nevada.

In this valley is the lowest point in North America, 86 meters below sea level. The valley also includes a large part of the National Park Death Valley.

In the valley of July 10, 1913 recorded the highest temperature in the world – +56,7 ° C.

But this catastrophe can be eliminated by using the technique described in the article Project Rescue the Dead Sea.
