The largest Mayan pyramid destroyed for the production of crushed stone

Mayan pyramidIn Belize, for the production of crushed stone destroyed the largest Mayan pyramid.  On the destruction of the pyramid age of 2300 years it became known in early May.


The pyramid was in private ownership, but the laws of Belize taken under the protection of all the buildings that were built before the arrival of the Spaniards.


“It’s one of the worst things I’ve seen in my 25 years of experience archaeologist,” – said the archaeologist of the Institute of Archaeology of Belize John Morris.


“We will not be able to return this pyramid. I’m terrified and I now have no words,” – he added.


Belize – a country in Central America.  Prior to 1973 was known as British Honduras.  Bordered on the north by Mexico and on the west by Guatemala.


Earlier, Belgian archeologists discovered in Luxor in southern Egypt previously unknown pyramid, which could be buried vizier of Ramses II.
