The last populations of Neanderthals

9000Researchers specify the time of extinction of the last populations of Neanderthals, who lived on the Iberian Peninsula.

According to new figures published in the journal PLoS ONE, Homo neanderthalensis disappeared for 37 thousand years ago. Summary of the research presented in a press release the University of Bristol.

The assumption that the Iberian Peninsula populations of Neanderthals persisted much longer than in other parts of the world, it has indicated paleontologist Zilyao Joao (Joao Zilhao) about 20 years ago. Since then, this hypothesis has become quite popular, but researchers disagree over when it disappeared last members of the species H. neanderthalensis.

The aliens live

aliensScientists from the Bulgarian Space Research Institute say they are currently working on deciphering the messages from another planet, written by a complex system of symbols. The aliens, according to the Bulgarian scientists, currently responsible for 30 issues, which they were raised.

Lachezar Filipo, deputy director of the Institute of Space Research, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, confirmed that such scientific work really is.

Climate change superpower

How much has been written about global warming, meteorological weapons and other such “wonders”. And some politicians are sometimes will give out – fit a Hollywood blockbuster about the apocalypse shoot!

Astronomers discuss the possibility of detecting alien

alienToday, the probability of finding life on other planets is higher than it has ever been convinced that the Astronomer Royal, Lord Rees, head of the Royal Society [British counterpart Academy of Sciences].

And such a discovery, he adds, if it occurred, would be a grand landmark in the history of mankind: it can be to change our perceptions of ourselves and our place in the cosmos.

These words from the lips of the venerable astronomer came at a time from different countries in London brings together members of the international conference which will discuss prospects for detecting extraterrestrials.

For half a century, scientists scan the heavens, hoping to find a radio signal sent by intelligent beings, but all they could hear so far – only the discharges of static electricity.

Killed the giant animals

animalArticle scientists appeared in the journal Science, but its outline is provided in a press release on the website of the University of Adelaide, whose staff participated in the work.

Paleontologists have determined that the probable cause of extinction of ancient giant animals (so-called megafauna), lived in Australia, was the impact of man.
In the new study, researchers conducted the dating of bone fragments and teeth of giant animals using the method of electron paramagnetic resonance. As a result, they were able to establish that the age of the remains does not exceed 50 thousand years. Previous methods based on the dating of the coal particles and quartz crystals in the ground where the remains were discovered, gave a completely different meaning.

The secret of vest Macedonian

For centuries, the gunsmiths were making the armor of solid and durable materials, primarily bronze and iron. However, in the middle of the XX century, it became clear that not only “short kolchuzhka” from the famous film “Alexander Nevsky”, but it is not good protection against arrows or spikes, but about the bullet and say nothing. But by this time just made important discoveries in polymer chemistry, and found that vests made of synthetic materials actually bullet and blast, but do not contain a single gram of metal. Bullets in the armor does not bounce off his vest, and get stuck in the polymer, as commonly used so-called Kevlar.

Biologists are looking for Martians in Australian lakes

According to modern ideas, in some regions of the Red Planet may exist lakes of liquid water with high salt content. In the new study scientists interested in the possibility of such biodiversity of lakes.

Biologists undertook a study of issues related to the existence of life on Mars, using samples from lakes with high acidity in the eastern part of Australia.
Article researchers appeared in the journal Astrobiology, a summary of its results Space.com.

Mankind has repeatedly found itself on the brink of extinction

Around 1.2 million years ago, people were on the verge of extinction. That is the conclusion drawn by researchers, whose articles appeared recently in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. According to the findings of new research, the number of human population was reduced to 18,5 thousand people (according to other estimates – up to 26 thousand). For comparison, the size of the population of gorillas is 25 thousand birds, and gorillas are an endangered species.
Edge
Modeling the dynamics of populations and observe animals in nature have shown that if the population size falls below a certain threshold, then save it from extinction no longer succeed. For each species is a critical number of his own. It depends on the living conditions of animals, especially their way of life and reproduction. Read the rest of this entry »

Microbiologists have found out who started the evolution

Microbiologists from the University of California believe that life on earth in the form as it exists now, would not occur if the world did not appear the two ancient primitive single-celled organism, known as prokaryotes.

Now to the domains of prokaryotes are bacteria and archaea. The genetic material of prokaryotes represented by a single DNA molecule in a closed ring, there is only one replicon. In cells lacking organelles with the membrane structure.

Biologist James Lake of the Center for Astrophysics and Biology, University of California at Los Angeles compared the different types of proteins found in the body, and existing for today more than 3000 prokaryotic two previously unknown prokaryotes, appeared more than 2.5 billion years ago. Then it was very simple non-nuclear organisms, which are synthesized and made progress in organic development.

Energy vampires

This was known already in antiquity. Thus, the Bible tells about King David, who, to support his aging body, surrounded himself with young and healthy slaves. However, not only he used this method of rejuvenation. Do not know, I read Mao Tse Tung Bible, but in the last years of his life, he extended his existence by the same methods as the biblical King …

What is energy vampirism and how to defend themselves from him? Just want to reassure: cases of conscious vampires are extremely rare, and therefore do not need to panic. Much more often (almost daily) we are faced with vampirism unconscious – Energy parasitism. What is it? Each of us have had periods of energy starvation (after illness, hard work, stressful situations …), Read the rest of this entry »
